Day 8 – San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua

Early start to our day as the tour instructions were to be in the Princess Theater by 7:15 am.  Even though I was staying aboard I still need help from the Commodore to get dressed and ready for the day so I was up early as well.

I hear that it was a “hurry up and wait” exercise since they didn’t get the ship’s tenders till about an hour after their arrival in the theater.

I saw Edna and Les this afternoon and they had a funny “tender” story to tell.  It seems once they boarded the tender and pulled away from the ship something went wonky and they just kept sailing around and around in circles!!  Finally, another tender arrived with an officer and an engineer and they managed to fix the problem.  Always a story around here!

The Commodore had a trip to Lake Nicaragua and a city named Granada.  They took a boat ride on the lake and went to a place called “Monkey Island” where one of the monkeys comes for a handout when his name is called, “Junior”.  They had lunch and a couple of beers and then got back to the ship just after four this afternoon.  What they saw was a lot of poverty and also some very nice estates built on their own islands in the lake.  Pretty typical for Central America, I think.  Costa Rica has a higher standard of living so tomorrow we should see some difference.

I know you are all waiting patiently for my trivia report so I won’t disappoint you!  I played this morning and am thrilled to report a clear first place win and I have a magnetic Princess chip clip to show for the effort!  I played with a couple I’ve never seen before and we did just great!  This afternoon was another story and we might have scraped out a third place.  Dismal.

Dinner was yummy this evening with a scrumptious lobster tail and crab cake entrée!  The Commodore had the duck, which he pronounced perfect!  After dinner we had a quick visit to the casino to give back a few $’s we won last night! L

Another early-ish morning tomorrow and since we are docking I will be able to disembark for a tour.  We have an aerial tram ride through the rain forest and a walk through a nature preserve.  We’re hoping to see some of the wild parrots and monkeys.  The crocodiles I can do without since they look like cement statues anyway!

Today is Lee Ann’s birthday and although there was an effort made to get the whole group together it fell apart with everyone getting back to the ship at different times.  We’ll try again another day to meet for drinks and give her the toast she deserves!!

Time to call it a day!  Calm seas tonight.
XOXOXOXOX
